This Sunday’s Gospel recounts Jesus sending out his disciples for mission.
We all know by now, if we’ve attended enough masses and homilies, at least in theory, that we are called to evangelise. To actively do so is another thing altogether.
But wait, there’s even a higher level to this.
Jesus didn’t say, let’s start a crowd fund, we’ll build up some mission resources and then go on this mission. He didn’t say let’s round up the gold coins and put X in the bank, then we live on the interest of Y and fund our mission.
Nope, he said “Take nothing”.
And this will befuddle even the least pragmatic amongst us. How do you just entrust yourself to the situation you are placed in and just go with God’s grace and peace. Knowing that He will lead you and take care of you accordingly.
It is a high calling and we are asked to leave the comfort of our intellect and well-made plans for ourselves and to simply trust in His will for us.
Let us pray this today that we come to Jesus in His Divine Mercy and say “Jesus, I trust in you”. And allow His will to guide us on our journeys.
Take nothing.
