You are the christ

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Peter exclaimed this divine revelation when Jesus asked him “Who do you say I am?”

We know this revelation was divine because Jesus affirmed him saying “Simon Son of Jonah, you are a blessed man! Because it was no human agency that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven.”

Now the question I often ask myself is “Do I believe that Jesus, truly, is The Christ?”

If he is, then why am I still beset with worries and anxiety of this life? Can we keep up with inflation? Will CPF even be enough when I eventually retire?

If he is, then why am I still chasing the pleasures of this life? That car looks nice! I will start a new hobby after I finish with this one.

If he is, then why am I just happy with going to Sunday mass? Do I even have the time and energy to do more?

Truth is, the fact that you are reading this email. Means that, like me, we believe Jesus is The Christ. But as with all things in life, there are shades of grey and nothing is an absolute. We have probably through the God Moments in our lives, stumbled upon this revelation. In the midst of a retreat, or a sacrament of reconciliation, we might have felt God’s love and how Jesus IS the Christ to have come down to our humanity to tell us of God’s love.

But we need constant reminders and help in keeping Jesus, as The Christ, the focus of our lives.

I used to question why the Catholic faith needs to be so complicated? We have numerous feast days, days of obligation, devotions to the Rosary, Divine Mercy, Liturgy of the Hours, sacraments of baptism, confirmation, reconciliation etc etc But alas, my advertising background reminds me that these are all moments of engagement with Jesus The Christ.

The more we engage with our faith, the more we’re able to keep the focus on Jesus.

So let’s keep trucking along on our faith journey, don’t let the world distract us from our focus that Jesus is The Christ. For myself, I’m still diligently pressing “Play” every day on the Cathecism in a Year podcast with Fr. Mike.

I’m praying for you, please pray for me!
