Open our eyes

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus heals a blind man by putting a paste on his eye and asking him to go wash in the pool of Siloam. The man went off as instructed and came back with his sight! However the Pharisees question him and refuse to believe the miracle. Instead they accuse Jesus of not observing the Sabbath.

Many reflections on this story will surmise that the Pharisees could see physically but were blind spiritually. They were more self-absorbed about how this would reflect upon them as leaders rather than acknowledge the supernatural was at work in front of their eyes.

The spiritual blindness vs the actual physical blindness which Jesus healed.

But I would also urge us to reflect on how pride or rigid thinking can prevent us from recognizing God’s work in our day-to-day. Not just in miraculous outcomes.

If we look hard enough, we might see the God-moments as we often talk about in Landings.

I believe God puts them there in our lives so we can see a glimpse of His hand, and in turn, believe and straighten our faith in Him.

A few of us recently went to a Parish in Perth called Riverton, to support a retreat called FAST24 which is basically a 24-hour community fast event with speakers, worship, adoration and confession. Much like our Landings retreat. This is their Parish Lenten event.

Definitely a God-moment for me. It all started out of nowhere, having a catch-up with an old schoolmate in December. He had migrated to Perth two decades ago and was back to visit his parents. One thing led to another and it all just happened after that one meeting.

So let’s open our eyes and see what is God telling us in our day-to-day. Who knows what He has in-store for us. As long as we acknowledge Him and are open to going along with His plan.
