Who’s your King?

In this Sunday’s Gospel, the people stayed there before the cross, watching Jesus as he hung on the cross. Above him was an inscription: ‘This is the King of the Jews’.

Whenever the end of November rolls around and we reach the solemnity of Christ the King, I am also reminded of my wedding vows as we got married on this feast day.

Much has been said about how we need to put Jesus in the centre of our lives, even married couples should be in a triangular relationship with Him as the third person above the couple.

This feast invites us to pause and ask who truly reigns in our hearts. In a world that celebrates power, achievement, and control, Jesus offers a very different kind of kingship—one marked by humility, service, and sacrificial love. His throne is the Cross, and His crown is woven from thorns. Yet this paradox reveals a deeper truth: Christ reigns not by domination, but by transforming us from within.

Placing Jesus as King in our lives means allowing His values to shape our decisions, priorities, and relationships. It means letting His voice rise above the noise of fear, pride, or self-reliance.

When Christ is King, our identity is rooted not in what we accomplish but in who we belong to. His Kingdom grows wherever forgiveness replaces resentment, compassion overcomes indifference, and justice is chosen over convenience.

This feast challenges us to surrender—not in defeat, but in trust. To say, “Jesus, You lead,” even when the path is unclear. It invites us to let His peace calm our anxieties, His truth guide our conscience, and His love animate our daily actions. When Christ truly reigns in us, our lives become signs of His Kingdom in the world.
