In this Sunday’s Gospel, the disciples are witness to Jesus’ miracle of multiplying the five loafs and two fishes to feed a crowd of more than five thousand people.
They were asking Jesus to dismiss the crowd by evening time so that they could go settle their own meals, but Jesus challenged them to “give them something to eat themselves”.
The miracle of the five loaves and two fish reminds me that God can accomplish extraordinary things through what seems small and inadequate. God does not ask us to have abundance before He can work through us—He asks for trust and generosity.
This Gospel challenges me to stop focusing on my limitations and instead offer my time, talents, and resources with faith, believing that Christ can multiply them for the good of others. It also reminds me that God cares not only for our spiritual needs but also for our physical and emotional well-being, calling me to be attentive to those who are hungry, lonely, or simply a listening ear as in our mission at Landings.
As I place my “five loaves and two fish” into Jesus’ hands, I am reminded that no act of love is ever too small when it is offered with faith and love.
