So we’ve locked in the designer and bought a flooring package. After taking a day-off work and getting the designers, flooring guy, electrician and plumber to go do their measurements at the new place, we were presented with the first hiccup. Apparently the existing floor tiles had a protruding pattern and hence this will be felt if you overlay it with the vinyl we chose. There were some remediating solutions like laying cement screed or a compound over the tiles before laying the vinyl but it would jack up the cost a little and after doing the sums, it almost stacks up to laying homogenous tiles.

We left the place in an undecided state but noticed the first car turning our way had a 444. So we brought up the issue with mum over dinner and she gave us a Bible passage after praying.

13 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 2 “When anyone has a swelling or a rash or a shiny spot on their skin that may be a defiling skin disease,[a] they must be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons[b]who is a priest. 3 The priest is to examine the sore on the skin, and if the hair in the sore has turned white and the sore appears to be more than skin deep, it is a defiling skin disease. When the priest examines that person, he shall pronounce them ceremonially unclean.

The first thing that came to me was the vinyl had initial reports of being toxic years back before becoming certified and more accepted these days. Also i was reminded that James does have sensitive skin and maybe we shouldn’t risk it. So we pulled the plug on the vinyl idea and lost the $500 deposit. They offered to give a significant discount if we re-considered but as always, I wouldn’t dare go against the direction from above.

So we’ve done a fair bit of shopping trying to snag deals during the Great Singapore Sale period and have checked off our shopping lists for:

Kitchen appliances, air-conditioners, customized wardrobe, book-shelf, TV console, sofa and bed.

We also have managed to go shopping for tiles with the designers and I didn’t realize there’s a giant store – Hafary which sells a zillion shades of grey.
