This Sunday’s Gospel tells us of how John the Baptist points to Jesus as “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”.
Do we as Christ followers, similarly, point our family and friends towards Him?
It is not an easy task but our challenge is to reflect Jesus by the lives we live. We are to be attractive to the people of the world such that they wonder what it is that makes us tick.
I remember seeing a news clip during the recent HK protests where a whole bunch of people are pointing their laser pointers at a tree in mockery, because the authorities said that these devices were as dangerous as weapons.
The protesters pointed out at a particular tree to show that it would not catch fire and was safe.
Its quite an analogy to me because we are also a gathering of many Christians who are pointing to the tree of life – Jesus on the cross. We are called to do so with laser focus, ignoring all the that the world calls us to be – rich, successful, powerful, brilliant, articulate, bright, charismatic etc.
Indeed, there is nothing wrong with all these attributes if we can reflect Christ in all we do. But these are not the end in itself.
So let’s focus.
