This week’s Gospel recounts the popular multiplication of 5 loaves and 2 fishes.
Most of us have heard of the this popular teaching where we should just offer up whatever we have in the service and glory of God and leave the rest to him. He will do wonders with whatever we have.
But today’s homilist, gives me a new insight – he says to notice how the disciples come to Jesus to say “This is a lonely place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.”
Instead, Jesus says “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.”
It is not someone else’s responsibility to feed the poor.
It is not someone else’s responsibility to help in Church.
Or someone’s else’s child to be called to religious service. Be it the priesthood or a consecrated life.
“We” are called to go and feed his sheep.
I’ve just ended a E-retreat today with our Landings group and it is a timely reminder for all of us in this mission. Especially since we are preparing a new parish to begin their own Landings program.
Lord, take our five loaves and two fishes, and do with it as you will.
Use it all.
Btw here’s and inspiring musical version of the miracle by Corrine May – Enjoy!
