In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus returns to his hometown of Nazareth. There the people rejected Him by saying “Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?”
Similarly for ourselves, have you encountered such opposition when you try to evangelise someone? They may reject your words thinking in their heads ” Who is he/she to tell me these things? Does he/she think she’s so holy now?”
Well, there is a saying that familiarity breeds contempt.
And maybe that’s why we find it difficult to speak about God or Catholicism to our friends, and especially our family. We do not want to stir up any resentment or start any petty fights.
If we have found Jesus on our own accord outside the family, it is difficult to then speak to members of our family about Him.
However, as we all know, we’re not called to give up. We are still to play our prophetic role by bringing the word of God to others.
Especially our loved ones. Family and friends.
So if you do have someone in mind, that you know, needs a way to return to the Catholic Church. Do give the Landings program some consideration and pass it on to them. Find out more at this Returned! event coming soon.
