“Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom” – This line was spawned by this week’s Gospel events. I remember this catchy line which was turned into a meditation piece. The first time I heard it, I was confused about the context until I read the text and remembered its the words of the repentant thief.
And truly, this line affects or encompasses us all as we all are sinners and hopefully truly repentant so that we can utter this to Jesus and be welcomed into his kingdom when our life runs out.
This week I received news that a church member’s wife whom I have met a couple of times has passed on after her battle with cancer.
When I received the news, I was busy at work. But when I looked at the message again later in the day, I realised I had been saying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for her at about the time she left.
I am humbled.
That could have been my send-off prayers for her.
Her husband heard my faith story in our Landings run and it jolted him because it was on week 1 sometime in March this year. I repeated it to a larger retreat audience which included her. She thanked me after the session for the words.
Now she has left.
It seems that everything has come full circle.
May eternal rest grant upon Regina, Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her. Grant comfort to her husband and kids who will carry her memory and continue on their journey.
Lord have mercy.
